Know before your start
Are you new to the process of building and deploying a web site or you just prefer to work with someone that does this more frequently than you? There are several moving parts that you may want to know before you start. You don't have to know or learn it. Work with me, I'll do it all for you!
The Domain
You will need a domain name by which your site will be known (www.YOU.com, .net, .art, .design, school, etc.). Depending on the length of the name and domain suffix you choose, domain providers will charge different prices. There are several providers. It's really your choice who you go with. GoDaddy, SquareSpace or Wix.com provide domain registrations; there are others too. Wix.com offers first year free when buying a platform plan. If you already own a domain name you can bring it to our project. We will only need this once we have the design ready to deploy. I will need admin rights for the duration of the setup. I dedicate time to this step during the refine and deploy step of the service.
The Platform
The platform is the place on the web where we will develop and deploy the design of your web site. If you choose to also add a mobile app to your design (this is a further custom, optional step) considerations apply such as the Apple Store and Google Play deployments. Platforms come with capabilities and either fit or don't fit your design point. First we understand your design point during the Discovery Session! If you need e-commerce, we choose and acquire a platform of that capability typically from Wix.com. Without e-commerce we also acquire a plan from Wix.com, but at a lower price. The purchase of the plan only needs to happen when we go live. Before that we can work in the developer environment. Without e-commerce you have a new choice. You could use a free platform such as sites.google.com with rudimentary but solid capabilities. The pay platforms often offer 3-year plans at favorable rates. I will work with you during all steps of the process to get this right.
The Design
This is truly the fun part where we impress the visitors that will come to your web site with a fresh, intuitive and easy to use design to facilitate the interactions you are planning. They could be commercial, booking services, class rosters etc. etc. We use templates or start from scratch to build a wonderful design that represents you and you will love. If you chose a free platform, there are less design choices. During the discovery session I will discuss all that with you. As a designer and administrator of your site, at least during the build and deploy phases, I will need access privileges. I will relinquish those again after we deploy unless you opt for a support plan. I will organize all your digital resources on the platform.
